Week 7

This was one of my favourite weeks so far.

Caleb Brownhill spoke on Fear of the Lord. It was really cool because during Monday morning worship, I was a little discouraged since I was thinking about how much deeper I wanted to grow in my relationship with God. I wanted to learn how to really have an intimate relationship with Him, then Caleb started talking exactly about that! I knew from then on that it was going to be a great week.

I loved everything he talked about, so I've written about my favourite points.

One thing he really focused on was how to walk with the Lord by having a deep reverence of His holiness. I learned that since we are a temple of the Lord, we have to have a deep respect for God so that the Holy Spirit wants to come and dwell within us. God wants us to be passionate about following Him, and our whole-hearted devotion. In order to really give our heart to Him, we have to seek Him and wait upon Him. Hebrews 11:6 says that the Lord rewards those who do just that! We have to believe in Him 100%, not just 99%, which is foundational for Christians. Before we go and tell others about God, we have to whole-heartedly believe and commit to Him.

The other aspect of walking with the Lord is learning how to hate sin. We should love what God loves, and hate what he hates. This means that we have to love people and hate sin. Jesus had zero appeal for sin, which is what we should strive for. We can overcome sin when we catch ourselves being tempted. As soon as the thought comes, we can choose to reject it. We should pray for God's attitude so that we can grow in intimacy with Him. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." Since the best relationships are those with similar motives, we should pray for the same heart as God.

Tuesday night was a dessert night where we shared what we were thankful for and what lessons we will implement on outreach. We also had an offering for people that still had remaining school fees to pay. The total was about $10k, and we raised more than enough! It was an amazing night of thanksgiving and an answer to prayers. On Friday night, we went skating! It was so nice to be cold again since it reminded me of home.

As you can tell, the heart was the main focus of the week. I learned so much this week that really impacted my worldview, especially the part about believing 100% in Him. Sometimes thoughts come across my mind, wondering if God really exists. I was able to confess my doubts and commit to whole-hearted believing. This week was just what I needed to grow deeper in my faith so that I have the confidence to go out and tell others about Jesus in this amazing season of hope. I can't wait to spread the gospel in this amazing city!

For the next four weeks of outreach, I may write a blogpost every other week :)
