Week 13

I wasn't planning on writing an update this weekend, but I just had to share about what I learned this week!

For the last week of lectures, Nathaniel (Buddy) Baldock spoke on Missions. However, it was nothing like you might think. I initially wasn't really looking forward to this week, since I don't necessarily feel that God is calling me to missions. I quickly realized that I would enjoy this week after the first few minutes of Buddy talking.

The week was based on looking at the seven spheres of society from a Biblical perspective. The spheres are: Economics, Media & Communication, Arts & Entertainment, Family, Education, Government, and Religion. We looked at each sphere in depth and how many different vocations can bring glory to God. I was reminded by Ephesians 4:1, which says, "I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received." God gives a variety of gifts to different people so that we can advance God's Kingdom here on earth. If people are given certain talents, they should use them so they can bless others and glorify God! Pleasing God should not be limited to specific spheres, but rather spread out among them. Imagine what our society could look like if everyone used their God-given gifts to the best of their ability! One of the best points I got out of this week is that missions doesn't have to mean dedicating your life to going out into the nations and preaching the gospel. We can live a lifestyle of missions, spreading God's love in our everyday life.

I leave Monday morning (or Sunday night in Canada) for Papua New Guinea! The remainder of this weekend will be very busy as I try to stuff everything into one backpack. I still find it hard to believe that I will be living on a medical ship for seven weeks! There will be many opportunities for evangelism since the majority of the staff will be non-Christian. I'm excited to put everything I've learnt into practice. It's crazy how much I've grown over the past thirteen weeks- and the best part is that there's still nine more to go! I can't wait for this new adventure to begin and to see what God has in store for me and my team!

I may have access to a computer on the ship, so I will try my best to continue posting updates. Bear with me if they are very sporadic!

With love, Hannah
